John William Grady founded Grady Trucking in 1906. His main focus was moving freight and hauling ice, all by horse and wagon. In 1913 John William’s sons - John Raymond and Malachai took control of the business after the passing of John William.
With the introduction of motorized transportation, horse and wagon were retired as the trucking business expanded. During the first three decades the main concentration remained moving freight for local companies i.e. the Bigelow Carpet Mills and Texaco Oil. Often trips would be throughout New England area. Transporting freight during those years was arduous, with long hours on the road.
At the time John Raymond became sole owner of Grady Trucking, the name changed to J. R. Grady & Sons as it is known today. Third generation, M. Raymond Grady was instrumental in launching a new direction towards asphalt paving. Since 1938 paving has grown to be the foundation of J. R. Grady & Sons.
Through the early 1980’s M. Raymond and his son Michael worked hand in hand to establish a reputation of quality workmanship and customer satisfaction. Michael has taken J. R. Grady & Sons and brought it full force into the 21st century. As each generation before him brought new areas of expertise, Michael continues the tradition.
